Founded in 1789, Backes & Strauss entered the watch world in 2007 when, as part of the Franck Muller Group, it launched its first collections of diamond-set timepieces featuring designs inspired by the works of architect John Nash and the elegant buildings of 19th century London – where Backes & Strauss first established an office 200 years ago.
Available in a range of ‘families’ named after celebrated London landmarks – such as the Piccadilly, Berkeley and Regent collections – Backes & Strauss watches have become renowned for the remarkable quality of the diamonds which adorn them and the unmatched skill of the maison’s craftsmen who invisibly hand-set each and every one.
The Backes & Strauss signature cut, the ‘Ideal’, is known for its ability to refract light in a perfectly symmetrical ‘hearts and arrows’ pattern which can be clearly seen under magnification. This makes its watches – which can carry as many as 500 first quality stones on case and bracelet – sparkle with a vivid intensity that can seldom be matched.
